Anchor text is the visible, clickable text in a hyperlink, and search engines use it as one signal to understand what the linked page is about. A backlink profile made up almost entirely of one exact keyword tends to look manufactured, while a natural mix of anchor types tends to look earned.
Keep exact-match anchors rare
A natural profile is dominated by branded and generic anchors, not one repeated exact keyword.
Mix in naked URLs and generic phrases
